Growth of celebrity status

Pref attachPreferential attachment can be used to explain partially the development of celebrities. Celebrities are commercially valuable because of the attention they receive. Media and advertisers use this attention to create a focus on and credibility for their media outlet or their product or service. The larger the celebrity status, the greater the attention and the more likely it is that media or advertises will be attracted to attach their brand to them. This, in turn, creates more exposure and attention, which makes them even more attractive, and so on. This dynamic behavior is likely to be the source of the public relations maxim for media personalities – “any publicity is good publicity”.
